Why Emotional Intelligence in kids is more important than IQ

Emotional intelligence is anything but a mere word. Many people are yet to understand the meaning of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is one of those traits that I really value. I strive to enhance my EQ levels every day through little, yet meaningful efforts that might go a long way in making me more emotionally sound and spiritually evolved.

These days, it is important for a child to learn these really valuable lessons during one’s formative years. Emotional intelligence makes a child more enlightened and attuned to her surroundings. She becomes more thoughtful and considerate of her approaches. Parents do everything to make their child succeed in all walks of life, they enable them to achieve everything they aspire for by equipping them with ample amount of self-confidence, self-belief, right attitude and skills that they need to become the best version of themselves. But, emotional intelligence is an unfamiliar, uncharted territory waiting to be explored and tapped into to reveal its sweetest and most beneficial resources. It awakens a child’s inner spirit, nourishes one’s mental stamina, bolsters one’s equanimity and ennobles deep instinctual vigour.

There is a book called Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ by Daniel Goleman which stresses a great deal upon emotional intelligence as a magical potion to guarantee success, virtues, morality, sense of esteemed righteousness, and more receptive wisdom. Inculcating such values in your child can actually help in maintaining a balance between one’s emotions and rational thoughts, in regards to the society and oneself.
If a child becomes aware of her mental intelligence during his formative years then it is likely to save her from the destructive potential of her own uncontrollable whirlwind of emotions in stages of adolescence and adulthood. She realizes to control the intensity of her emotions before letting the emotions control and consume her logical reasoning and rational aptitude. It is really important for parents to understand the need of inculcating emotional intelligence in their children rather than raising them on the plank of a strong set of values and principles. A child has to be taught the art of making her own rules, setting up one’s own values and staying true to one’s principles and innate values even despite all the odds.
