Is your little one turning into a hot mess for no reason? Well, he could be struggling with teething pain. Teething is a normal part of every baby’s development. But it’s so hard to watch your little one suffering through it. Most babies begin to teethe between 4-7 months of age. But some start much later.

When the baby starts teething, he can be cranky and irritable. Some usual symptoms include:

  1. More drooling than usual: Many kids have a lingering cough due to the large amounts of saliva that their bodies are producing. And teething pain tends to be worst at night.
  2. Swollen gums: Changes in your baby’s gums, such as puffiness and redness can indicate that teething has begun.
  3. Loss of appetite: The child refuses to eat or drink.
  4. Sleep disturbances: Babies don’t necessarily understand why they are experiencing pain or discomfort and may become irritable or clingy.
  5. A low-grade fever: A slightly elevated temperature is among the top teething symptoms.
  6. Diarrhoea: Loose or increased stools are expected by your teething kid.
  7. A rash around the mouth: It can be caused by chafing from baby’s excessive drool.

Teething remedies

Teething toys: Something to chew on is sometimes all your baby really needs to get through the pain of teething. There are a lot of options for teething toys that are also safe and non-toxic.

Cool things: Cold teething toys can provide quick relief from teething pain. Ice lollies, cool purified food, and biltong can be given to older babies.

Chewing: A wet cloth, cooled in the fridge, makes the excellent chewing material.  Apples, carrots, or other raw vegetables are good to chew on for older babies.

Massage: Rub your little one’s gums with a cloth or finger for about two minutes if the tooth hasn’t erupted.

Pain Reliever: Paracetamol (recommended by pediatric) given in the correct doses can help relieve teething pain.
