Baby Food Recipes: Baby’s Food, Nutrition and Diet

Every Mother wishes to have the best for her child. Be it clothes, toys, education and so on and so forth. However to a mother, An Infant’s Food, Nutrition and Diet are perhaps, the most important. Enlisted in this article are Nutritious and Easy Baby Food Recipes that you can make at home.

So what are the best baby food recipes which are healthy, filling and which suit the child’s taste buds? Personally, I feel the freshly cooked home food is the best for babies as well as their mothers. The care and nutrition required for the new Mother are equally important as the need of the Baby. The Mother’s body goes through a lot during the nine months of pregnancy and childbirth. So a healthy diet is essential for her recovery as well.

It is a staple concept to introduce solid food to Babies after they complete six months. The gums of the baby are hard enough, and they can slowly learn to chew and swallow their food.

So here are some best baby foods which you can give to your little one:

  • Mashed Banana (small yellow).
  • Boiled and Mashed Potatoes, Sweet potatoes, Pumpkin, Carrots, Apples.
  • Soft rice with ghee/ water from dal.
  • Kheer (made with rice, wheat, rawa or nachani). Use cow milk while preparing the kheer as it is easier to digest. Also, avoid adding sugar or salt. You can add a pinch of jaggery to give a sweet taste.

As your baby grows into a toddler, the teeth start sprouting, and you can introduce more variety in the food. I am sharing a few snack options:

Roast Makhana (Lotus Seeds/Foxnuts) in ghee and add a pinch of salt for flavour

Boiled eggs/plain omelette

Baby Food RecipesSautéed vegetables (potato/broccoli/mushrooms/carrots/cauliflower) in ghee with a little salt

Fruits/ dry fruits soaked in water

Murmura (either plain or lightly roasted in some ghee)

These are easy to make baby food recipes and are very healthy. You can add some ginger garlic paste or masalas as per the liking of your little one. Indian breakfast options like Poha, Upma, Idli, Dosa can be introduced later as well.

Adding a variety of colours and textures to your food by using different fruits and vegetables helps in maintaining the child’s interest in food and resulting in lesser fussy eaters. The presentation of the food also matters, and so you can use a variety of plates and bowls with their favourite characters, etc.
