Just monsoon things you must keep in your mind

Let the melody of monsoon play on your mind, not it’s menace on your beauty. With the onset of monsoon, there is green everywhere, it drives away the blues. Monsoon has a lot of adverse impact on our skin, hair and health and if not taken care properly, things are only likely to go worse. Without much ado, let’s see how simple changes and care can keep our and our kids, skin, hair and health from damage. Since, this is the season of extra care.
For hair:
· Rain water is acidic, it can cause major damage to hair. Do not keep it open if you are caught in torrential downpour.
· Use a mild, yet deep cleansing shampoo to remove any residue on your scalp left behind by rain water.
· Nothing’s as good for your hair during the monsoon as a good and relaxing hair oil massage, but only if you are sure of protecting it from the downpour. Don’t oil your hair much during monsoon especially if you have a problem of oily and greasy scalp. It may only make your scalp more oily and greasy. Just once a week application of oil is sufficient.
· Oiling hair naturally boosts the moisture in your hair which revitalizes dry strands and scalp.
· Cover your hair with umbrella or a waterproof hoodie or cap while heading out.
· If your hair is wet, always use a wide tooth comb, not only does it help in detangling your tresses, but it also serves as a good conditioning comb.
· Eat good for hair, food rich in protein, iron and omega 3 fatty acids like mackerel, salmon, walnuts, spinach and dahi, sprouts, amla, milk and milk products.
· You can also try applying warm oil mixed with curry leaves for your hair to keep your tresses thick and black and nourished.
· Let your curls dry naturally, avoid heat treatment and blow dries.
· I preferably use a mixture of castor oil, coconut oil, sometimes only olive oil.
· My hair care regime (I have long tresses) – I oil my hair before washing, and apply onion juice on scalp and keep it for 15 min and wash off with mild shampoo and conditioner, and lastly, pour lemon juice on hair to give a shine.

Skin care:
· Use soap free cleansers and a good scrub to keep your skin moist all the time and to get rid of excessive oil, grease and blackheads. I use Himalaya neem face wash. It helps me fight oily skin due to humidity and keeps my skin pimple free and refreshingly clean.
· Most common mistake we do is stop using sunscreen assuming the weather is cool and hazy, so sunscreen is not required. in every season, make it a habit to not step out without putting sunscreen.
· Use water proof make up if you cannot avoid using makeup.
· Choose a lotion- based serum, which keeps your skin rehydrated.
· Always wash your face, hands and feet as soon as you reach your home with lukewarm water. This makes you feel refreshed and stay healthy, And also helps to avoid bacterial and fungal infection.
· Bed time regime – Wash your face, hands and feet, apply olive oil on nails of hands and feet and a night crème or your regular moisturiser, I use organic aloe- rose water gel, it’s from a local shop, you can mix aloe Vera and rose water and apply.
· Once a week scrub with coffee honey concoction. It helps you rejuvenate your skin.
· For dry skin – Make a paste out of crushed almonds and honey and apply it on your face for about 5-7 minutes and wash it off. It’s a miracle solution for dry skin and good to be used in all seasons.

· For oily skin-Use a pure oatmeal scrub or ripe, papaya pulp as a gentle cleaner and exfoliator.
· Toner is must, for dry skin: Use five drops of chamomile oil/ tea tree oil in one tsp milk.
For oily skin: Use ten drops of lavender/ tea tree oil in one tsp water.
· Summer or winter, monsoon or spring; oily skin or dry – Never skip moisturizing.
Monsoon can have an extra dehydrating effect on dry skin and an over-moisturizing effect on oily skin. Make sure to use a light lotion-based moisturiser or serum, which will gently rehydrate your skin and restore a fresh, healthy look to your skin.
· A good fresh fruit facial is must, it’s not only refreshing but it is like a skin food which is really helpful to get rid of dry flaky skin, and who doesn’t like pink glowing skin (like my hubby says OIEE GULABO, as I get my fruit facial done. :P)

The most important thing is to be careful in monsoon. Monsoon is the season when we are bound to catch cold, get stomach upset, loose motions, and fall ill. So, let’s fight monsoon illness by doing following things.
· Drinking plenty of water in this season as it is important to keep your body hydrated every time.
· Wash all the fruits and vegetables, especially the green leafy vegetables and cauliflower as they play a host for worms and larvae and dirt, this is very important as this is the major cause of stomach problems and illness.
· Avoid uncooked salads in this season, instead eat, properly washed in boiling water to disinfect them and a healthy vegetable soup that keeps your body warm, this is not only healthy but good for skin conditioning and nourishment also.
· Including garlic, pepper, ginger, turmeric, jeera powder and coriander in your diet as it helps in reducing indigestion problems and improves your immune system and fight cold and viral.
· Do not walk bare footed or wear wet shoes in this season.
· Increase milk products, nuts and soya products which give your hair naturally healthy shine.
· Add vitamin c rich food like lemon, oranges and kiwi to fight cold and get glowing skin and hair.
· Maintain hygiene and avoid road side vendor food especially during monsoon, as the food easily gets affected with bacteria and fungi. And if you need to have, opt for hot and packaged drinks and food than chaat, veggies toast sandwich than veg sandwich.
· Fresh foods are the best served this season, not only for kids but for entire family, avoid stale food.
· Do not dry your clothes where you and your kids sleep since the moisture in clothes keeps the room damp, circulation of fresh air in your living spaces is of utmost importance.
Following these aforementioned but useful skin, hair and health tips for your body would help you to gear up and combat your monsoon blues. Get ready to glow this monsoon.
