Social media addiction these days is not just limited to the youngsters and adults, but our tiny tots are too not averse to its charming spell. Evidently, if kids would see their modern age parents engrossed day and night in chit chatting, twiddling their fingers on their blinking screens for hours, without being even a bit concerned about each other’s presence, let alone the child then what options do a child is left with apart from stepping into the shoes of parents!?

Though, this age can better be described as a technology-driven age where your child’s potential is better assessed through a number of ways. Geekiness and the ease with gadgets is one of the primary factors to get an insight into their abilities. Especially, ‘boys’ from a very young age are bound to undergo tremendous pressure to excel in the field of technology, since 90% parents have already begun weaving their dreams of seeing their tech-savvy champ bagging a dream seat at one of the most coveted IIT campuses. But, “are we too blind to see that these future web warriors can also be webbed by the potential social media dangers lurking out there for its docile victims?”

While writing this article, I remember having watched V Gumraah and MTV webbed during my adolescent days; which was based on true events and these were the shows that our these precious jewels should watch on Hotstar or on any other platform easily accessible even today. What it showed there was the most dreadful facet of social media addiction and negligence, which holds extreme relevance in today’s times.

Social media is a platform that can offer an avalanche of knowledge, if used in the right way and at the same time can also wreak the drastic consequences, if the child happens to go astray. It really tends to ruin the growth years by leaving his/her psyche and mental state scarred and traumatized. Parents need to be extra cautious of their children when they notice them spending their time on the internet beyond a certain limit and they trying to put other important activities aside. Showing up a lackadaisical approach in all their important academic and extracurricular activities should not be taken lightly.

Parents need to ensure with the help of software, the kind of sites their kids are regularly surfing through, and the links they are citing by not being too invasive. Since, it may lead to creating a rift between the growing teenagers and the parents, making them even more hostile and disobedient towards their parents in the process. A little strictness mingled with friendliness, concern, solicitude, and sensibility on the part of caring and aware parents can save the life and golden career of many multi-talented gems.
