Work-Life Balance: How to Balance Parenting Priorities

Throughout the circus act of parenting, it’s important to focus on balancing priorities, juggling responsibilities and quickly flipping between the needs of your children, other family members and yourself.

To balance something is to maintain an equilibrium. An equilibrium is to have all the pros and cons measured with a positive result.
Parenting is such a labyrinth. One is never satisfied with the decisions. Decisions for the excellency of children. From globe trotter couple to a parent, the transformation is a challenge.

As new parents, the transformation from being a couple to new parents is a joyous one – but it also comes with multiple challenges and surprises in store! The demands of the newborn take a toll on your health, peace of mind, sleeping patterns, energy levels and most importantly on your personal relationship with your spouse. For most of the new parents, it means absolutely no “WE” time at all. To the extent that they do not even get a chance to have eye contact and give a relaxed hug. New parents very often wonder how to keep their relationship strong while they are swept up in the needs and care of the baby.

Every relationship demands communication and honesty. Transparency is pivotal.
Being a parent, it’s difficult to set priorities. One pursues perfection but with loopholes. Though a child demands a major portion of your time and energy; if you follow few norms you can break the monotony of routine followed.

Balancing helps to have “us” time. A partner should be understanding and cooperative. Easier said than done. It is very easy for the father to assume that the mother can and should handle the kids and chores. Vice versa, even the mother might feel that she is in total control of the house and need not interfere with other pressing matters relating to finance, paying bills, etc. They both take each other for granted. It is important that the partners pay attention to each other’s viewpoint and respect it. A vehicle is well balanced by four wheels, so is a relationship or parenthood.

Modern parents have the entire internet at their disposal and don’t follow any single authority. It’s hard to know whom or what to trust.
To get the priorities back in balance, believe in yourself. Being overbusy is the second name of being stressed. Everything cannot be accomplished. Not achieving goals can be frustrating and thus destroying the fun of life.
